The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Kolade Eluyera, a polling unit agent for the Accord Party. Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi stated that Eluyera was found with fatal gunshot wounds in Ikire, Irewole Local Government, and a full investigation is now underway.
Eluyera, whose mother is the Accord Party’s Women Leader in Irewole, was attacked late Friday night near the Onireke Mosque by suspected political thugs. His death sparked a political dispute, with the Accord Party and the Imole Campaign Council accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of involvement, an allegation the APC called a false attempt to damage its image.
Senator Akogun Lere Kamorudeen Oyewumi, the Deputy Senate Minority Leader representing Osun West, visited the Eluyera family to offer his condolences. During the visit, he expressed deep sorrow and strongly condemned the growing political violence and insecurity threatening Osun State’s peace and democratic values.

The Senator described the murder as barbaric and a direct threat to the democratic principles cherished by the people of Osun West. He prayed for the peaceful rest of the deceased’s soul and asked Almighty God to grant the family the strength and comfort needed to endure this irreparable loss.
Senator Oyewumi called on security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the killing. He demanded that everyone connected to the heinous act be identified, arrested, and brought to justice without delay.
The Senator urged all residents to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding despite the rising tension the murder has caused. He was accompanied on the visit by notable political leaders, including a member of the House of Representatives.
The incident has further heightened political tensions ahead of the governorship election, with both the Accord Party and the Imole Campaign Council accusing the APC of ignoring early security warnings in Irewole. The Accord Party described Eluyera as a steadfast and uncompromising agent who had served diligently during previous elections.
In response, the APC Governorship Election Campaign Council dismissed the accusations as baseless and politically motivated, insisting that the party rejects violence in all forms. The party offered its sympathy to the family but urged everyone to let the police complete their investigation without political pressure.
The police have deployed additional personnel to the area as the investigation continues, treating the case as a critical test of public safety in the region.
