A suspected bandit, Harande Dikko, has been arrested and reportedly tortured after being recognized in Anka town, Zamfara State, during a daredevil bet to prove his invincibility.
According to a detailed Facebook post by D English Alhaji, Dikko entered into a bet with his associates and their gang leader. The terms were simple: if he could go into Anka town—a busy commercial hub—and return to the forest without being caught, he would be rewarded with N5 million. The gang agreed that Friday, the town’s bustling market day, was the ideal time for the challenge.
Dikko allegedly entered Anka to make purchases, mingling with the crowd in an attempt to blend in. However, his presence was noticed by a resident who had previously been kidnapped by the same gang. The former victim promptly raised an alarm, leading to Dikko’s immediate arrest by local security operatives or vigilantes. Reports indicate he was subsequently tortured before being handed over to the authorities.

The incident highlights the growing audacity of bandits operating in the Northwest region, who have increasingly turned kidnapping and cattle rustling into a lucrative but perilous enterprise. The use of bets and dares among criminal groups reflects a disturbing culture of impunity and rivalry within their ranks.
Efforts to reach the Zamfata State Police Command for an official comment were unsuccessful as of press time. However, security analysts note that such public arrests, while a relief to local communities, underscore the persistent security challenges in rural markets where bandits often attempt to blend in with traders.
The post by D English Alhaji has since sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many calling for tighter security around market days to prevent future infiltration by criminal elements.
