The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has used very strong words to warn people who might try to cheat in the next governorship election in 2027.
On November 24, 2025, during a government meeting, the governor said in the Yoruba language: “Wèrè, la n fi wo wèrè.”
In simple English, this means: “We will use madness to cure madness.” You can also understand it as “We will fight fire with fire” or “We will give them a taste of their own medicine.”
Why Did The Governor Say This?
Governor Makinde is currently in his second and final term as governor. He cannot run for the same position again in 2027. His main goal now is to make sure that his political party wins the election fairly so that his good work can continue.
He is worried that other parties might try to use cheating or illegal tactics to win the election. His strong statement is a warning to them. He is basically saying,
If you try to cause trouble or cheat, we will be ready to confront you and stop you legally and firmly.
He is confident that the people of Oyo State will vote for his party if the election is fair. A news report from Premium Times quoted him as saying,
We are not afraid. We are not jittery at all. We are fully prepared for the 2027 election. The "madness" comment was his way of saying his party is ready for any challenge.
What Does "Madness to Cure Madness" Really Mean?
This is an old Yoruba proverb. It does not mean the governor is promoting violence or actual madness.
Think of it this way: If someone is acting crazy and causing problems, sometimes you have to act just as firmly to stop them. It’s like a doctor using a strong medicine to fight a strong disease. In this case, the "disease" is election cheating, and the "cure" is a strong, lawful response.
What Happens Next?
This statement has set the stage for the 2027 election in Oyo State. It tells everyone that Governor Makinde and his party are taking the election very seriously and will not allow anyone to steal the people's votes.
Supporters are happy with his strong stance, feeling he will protect their votes. Opponents might see it as being too aggressive.
One thing is clear: the governor has sent a powerful message that the 2027 election in Oyo State will be a closely watched and fiercely contested battle.
